Learn more about the SOPHOS project

SOPHOS stands for Smart on-board processing for Earth observation systems and is funded by the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation program. The consortium members in SOPHOS are UNIBAP, German Aerospace Center (DLR) Universität zu Lübeck, TELETEL S.A. and DSI Aerospace GmbH who also is the coordinator of the project.

– In the SOPHOS project we work together with DSI to develop a new hardware setup suitable for SAR-missions. The DSI Mass memory module will be combined with our space edge computer iX10. This Mixed Criticality Solution will combine new and more traditional approaches and technology towards space missions. The idea is to make it possible to use SAR sensors on medium and small satellites. This would be something completely new in the space market. This project also shows the flexibility and potential in iX10 when combined with other hardware, says Josefine Nittler, Project Manager for SOPHOS at Unibap.
